Home-Based

Family Licensed

Provides care for at least one unrelated child on a regular schedule. Based on the square footage of the home, they may provide care for up to eight children with one caregiver, or up to 16 children with two caregivers.

Residential Certified

Provides care for at least one unrelated child on a regular schedule. The caregiver may not have more than eight children in care, and no more than two children under age 2.

Family, Friend & Neighbor

Legally exempt and cares for the child(ren) of a DWS customer who is eligible for child care subsidy payments.

Exempt In Home

Legally exempt child care. A program is not required to have a license or certificate if any of the following apply: the parent is physically present where the care is provided, care is only provided to related children, care is offered for less than four hours a day, or care is provided for fewer than five children. Child Care Licensing does not run background checks or conduct annual inspections.


Center-Based

Center Licensed

Provides care for children ages 0-12 on a regular schedule.

Hourly Center Licensed

Provides care for children ages 0-12 on a drop-in basis, not on a regular schedule.

Exempt Center - DWS Approved

Legally exempt and cares for children ages 0-12. A license is not required for programs if any of the following apply: the parent is physically present where the care is provided, the program is owned or operated by the federal government, care is offered for less than four hours a day, or care is provided for fewer than five children.

Exempt Center - Schoolbased

Legally exempt and cares for children ages 0-12. A license is not required for programs who provide care at a school or other educational institution, or that have other government oversight. Child Care Licensing does not conduct annual inspections.
